Deci- means doing things by 10's. The best examples are decimal measurements where each change of position with respect to the decimal point is 10 times the one to the right and our money based on dollars, dimes, pennies, and thousandths of a dollar. (mill rates)
Because of the rules of the SI system and common usage, the deci- prefix is much less used that milli- and centi-, but decimeter is 1/10th of a meter (100 mm) is about 4 inches.

An example you see everyday:

Our numbers are on the decimal system. There are 10 possible numbers used in sequence with eachother to make a value: 0-9.
