Oh yeah. See, I was in my school's creative writing club for a while, and there was this kid, Jack. Jack was a REALLY hardcore writer. He wrote all the time. One day, he realized that his senior project was due in three days. So he started working on that. He made the fatal mistake of telling his mom, a no-nonsense lawyer. So she wouldn't let him stop to eat, drink, sleep, or write. He went for three days without writing a word of poetry, and then- nothing but guts and a pinkie toe. That's when I decided the FFA would be a more appropriate club. I didn't want to become dependent on writing and end up like Jack.

Good question and the answer is probably yes. At least part of the time. I find that many authors are manic/depressive. We write in the manic state - big time. At that time the ideas flow and we crave mania like a drug. When we are manic, if we don't write we probably would explode. For that reason, I carry notebooks with me every place I go. I also keep a tape recorder on the seat of my car. I got tired of pulling into Mc Donalds parking lots to write or trying to drive and write. When you are in that zone, ideas kind of come like word association -- one thing leads to another thing ... and you cannot seem to get them down fast enough. I also find I am in this zone just before I go to sleep and right when I wake up. My normal "office hours" = the hours when I write are 1 - 5 am. Those are my zones. Everyone is different. I haven't exploded yet, but I have come close. Pax - C

These are fun answers! Of course we don't explode, but the need to write is incredibly powerful and sometimes I find if I can't write as often as I feel the need to I get kinda moody...so I guess it means on what kind of explosion writers have....:)

True. In fact, what the press is reporting as "suicide bombers" are actually writers unable to write because of political restrictions and the lack of writing tools. Actually, they do have pencils and paper, but they believed they needed a word processor. Think of how many writers would not have exploded if we'd only supplied them with a computer with Word on it!

I suspect greengo and I were typing in our responses at the same time. But she beat me in and should get credit for the conceit. Good for you, greengo!

If you mean literally, then no of course not...lol that would be scary! But if they have an idea in their head and then they can't get any time to write it dn, it might start bugging them and they sort of "explode" in like a annoying way where they get kinda annoyed witht hemselves and stuff....well yes I know that sounds really weird but its hard to explain. So is it true or false? The answer is both.

lol, yes, actually that's a good way to put it. I like to describe the feeling as that the story "creates itself" and for whatever reason chose me to translate it on paper. It shows me the general feel of what its supposed to be, and it "tells" me whenever I am writing it wrong. It is also constantly nagging at me and won't stop until I'm done. :) But have to write or I will explode is another way to describe it! lol.

I've heard this also from writers, they say that they have felt compelled to write since they were children, Taylor Caldwell was on of them, and a lot of her works were make into mini series on TV !!!!!!

it's true. but not literally of course. i'm an aspiring writer myself and if an idea or lyric or poem comes into my head i HAVE to write it down. otherwise it will keep bugging me and eventually i will forget it. and that's the most annoying thing when that happens.

Writing helps me relieve stress. Plus, if there is someone I don't like, I can make him/her into a horrible character! :)

But, I don't think I would explode. However, you never know!

TRUE
Haven't you ever heard of Spontaneous Human Combustion? Mostly writers lacking good writing instruments. Dam.n shame, too.

I do have to write, though, seriously. It is a passion.
