On Thu, the amount used
= 14.8 x 100.25/100
= 14.84 gallons

None of the answers are right.
Another way to look at it.
1% increase would be 14.8/100 = 0.148 gallon
1/4% increase = 0.148/4 = 0.0395 ~0.04 gallon
so total use = 14.8 + 0.04 = 14.84 gallons
ALL the answers are wrong!

when x=2/3, y=35,
3xy - 1/5y = 3 (2/3) 35 - 1/5 35
= 70 - 7 = 63

1. 14.8 X 1.0025 = 14.837. B or C are the closest answers.
2. 3x = 2 1/5y = 7, so the answer is 2 x 7 = 14. Your probable mistake is that you are thinking that 1/4 percent is the same as 25%.. 1/4% is .0025, not .25

1 percent of 14.8 then divide by four?

then add what you get when you divide by four?

im not sure what the answer would be, but i think thats how it would be?

kk, now for number 2:

3xy - 1/5 y
3 2/3 35 - 1/5 35

kk, now im stumped cause i still cant find a calculator! grr!! sorry i cant help you! im only going into eighth grade myself so i dont even think the first one in right. good luck!

1) You are using 125%
Amount used Thursday was 14.8 * 0.25% = 0.37 gallons
It cannot be A or B they are lower.
C is 0.25 gallons more
D is 0.4 gallons more, which is 0.25% of total.

2) 3xy - 1/5y
Substitute:
3(2/3)35 - 1/5(35)
Simplify:
2*35 - 7
70 - 7 = 63

= 14.8 + 1/4(14.8)
= 14.8 + 3.7
= 18.5

Answer: 18.5 gallons

2) 3xy - 1/5y
= 3(2/3 * 35) - 1/5(35)
= 3(23 1/3) - 7
= 70 - 7
= 63

Answer: 63

You are reading the question incorrectly. Add 1/4 of a gallon. 14.8+.25 = 15.05

1% = .01
1/2% = .005
1/4% = .0025
Therefore, 14.8 gallons + 1/4%, or .0025 more = 14.837 gallons.
