What you really want (and what all HP fans really want) is Harry Potter all over again, only for the first time. Unfortunately, the series has a unique combination of elements not exactly reproduced in any other book.
What you can read is some more fantasy. I suggest trying "A Spell for Chameleon" by Piers Anthony, which is the beginning of his (very long) Xanth series. (You don't have to read the whole series if you don't want to, because it doesn't seem likely that he's ever going to end it. I think he's up to #30-something.)
"A Spell for Chameleon" is a humorous fantasy about a man who must go on a quest to identify his magic talent, or else be exiled from the magical realm of Xanth to the magic-less land of Mundania.
A really great series is The Elenium, followed by The Tamuli, by David Eddings. The stories have both humor and adventure. A knight is on a quest to find a cure for his poisoned Queen. Read in this order:
1. The Diamond Throne (Elenium #1)
2. The Ruby Knight (Elenium #2)
3. The Sapphire Rose (Elenium #2)
4. Domes of Fire (Tamuli #1)
5. The Shining Ones (Tamuli #2)
6. The Hidden City (Tamuli #3)

I seriously recommend Cirque de freak by Darren Shan because when he starts his book his character is very young and we get to see him go from a child to a vampire to the lord of all all vampires. It is kinda like harry potter but instead of a wizard war there is war between vampires and vampaneze. These books are really great because they made me love reading. I coundn't put them down.

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:
http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book, and a "reader's choice" list of favorite books.
I hope this helps.

Anything by Diana Wynne Jones. The Chrestomanci series, published in the 70s, are about a boy who grew up unaware of his powers, made a lot of mistakes but became the most powerful wizard of his age. (Sound familiar?.... )
