Mandatory court date means you CAN'T 'just pay the ticket'. You CAN contact the court and ask to reschedule for an earlier date. Your insurance company will increase or not increase your rates based on the ticket being issued. The ONLY outcome in court that would change that is if the ticket were dismissed. Points on you driving record DO NOT affect insurance. The insurance company has their own point system.

Somewhere on the ticket is a phone number for the court. Pick up your phone. Punch those numbers. Tell the person who answers what you just told us. That person is going to have much better and more accurate information than anyone else on here.

The first answer posted is your best bet.

Alternative: hire a lawyer to represent you. That will at least satisfy the appearance requirement, well depending on the law there i guess.

if you have a court date my suggestion is be there. the only thing worse thn a ticket is a warrant for failure to appear, your problems will only get worse and drive safely to stay out of trouble it creates far more than its worth as in this case you have here.
