Because his raps are to a country beat... Technically he's not country in my opinion as more of a Alternative country artist. (which CMT as part of MTV embraces all country.... mainstream as well as alternative)

John Rich won't diss his fellow in the music mafia but also John Rich's tastes have changed in 13 years. He started in country music as a straight laced country singer in the group "Lonestar" and actually beat feet about the time the group went in a pop direction.

I have nothing personal against pop country. But I think we have people who think that some of the music out there has crossed the line from country to Adult Contemporary too much since 2000 or so (country actually lost fans due to this in the early part of the decade because of this.. and only now getting them back)

Big and rich actually have the song "Lost in this moment" which was number 1 on country at 21 on the a/c charts right now.. most country purist beleive a country artist should stay country.

Getting back to Cowboy Troy, he was and still is a gimmick artist. I don't see him becoming mainstream in the south and midwest where most of the country base is... Once some of the black country artists that are still plying music row for a deal, are actually signed and can sing like say Keith Urban or the only other black singer ever in country music (Charley Pride) then we will see diversity much more. (even though country has had a few american indians and a few hispanics)

Cowboy Troy is on CMT because he is a Country Performer, as a member of the MuzikMafia and an acknowledged country music contributor... he is well within his right to be on the CMT. Yes, he is not the traditional Waylon & Willie genre, but he is another angle of the music.

I wish you well!

Ok I don't understand you people. You call yourselves country fans but don't have the respect to allow a new sound into the genre. The man rolls with big and rich. He likes country music. So are we gonna make this a racial issue. Is it cuz he's black or maybe the fact that he's one of two black country singers that I've seen. He has some pretty ecent music. You just can't accept the fact that the music you think should be completly "white" music has a couple of black singers in it. There is nothing wrong with the music he sings. Have an open mind and LOVE EVERYBODY not just the people you think should only love certain types of music. I love country and everything else. I've got no problem with CBT doin' his thing and addin a new sound to country. Lighten up a bit. Just because he's black doesn't mean he's only allowed to like rap and not allowed to like country.

He's pathetic...(And I say that only from LOOKING at him--channel surfing when I had cable...I've never even seen him perform and I can still just TELL he's a joke!) I guess some show producer thought that dumb gimmick of a black cowboy would be cute. There were black cowboys, probably in Oklahoma, but I doubt that they acted like that! Maybe they thought it would boost ratings...Wynona probably wants to puke, but just puts up with it for money's sake.

John Rich of Big N Rich has big influence in Music City and he says Cowboy Troy is country. So, Cowboy Troy is country.
He sings with Big N Rich often.

I have to completly agree with "Urban Suns Angel 13 …" . all you so- called country fans are doing nothing but rejecting the unfamiller because YOU don't want to give something YOU don't understand a chance. DON'T START HATING ON COWBOY TROY JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE HIM !!!!!! What has he done to cause you to dislike his music so much anyways??? I think ya'll are just hating.

He sucks man! I don't like him. I think he is trying to start a new genre of music. Far from country, I don't like rap.
