When the tub is empty it runs fine, but when I add clothes to the cycle it doesnt move at all. i am not sure what I need to do. Any suggestions?

you did not say what brand it is, but all washers run off a belt, sounds like the belt is slipping, or bad, some mach, have to have the transmission removed to do this, [replace it] a quick fix is to buy a can of BELT dressing, at the hardware store. and spray the belt and pulleys.
while you have it on its side, look for a belt tightner, or idler pully,
