I think every young, able bodied young American man should be required to serve at least two years in the military.

You mention as a purpose for a draft - to reduce the amount of time our troops in the Iraqi and Afghanistan war would have to stay. Great idea - IF - the chimp and all the other fence-riding politicians would actually do what they claim they would do. Do you actually trust any of those pathological liars in Washington to do what they say they will? You better get one thing straight - our young men and women NEVER should have went over there to begin with - but now they are there they need to come home now - not months from now. Let the Muslim cows fright their own war!

1) We are not that burnt out.

2) A draft would destroy a lot of things the current military has built with the all volunteer force. A lot of us volunteers would leave if a draft were imposed.

3) Its also a matter of how fast could it be done. Sure people could be found quickly, but this country is not industrially mobilized for war, so where would the equipment come from?

4) Basically, what you are calling for they are already doing by authorizing the size of the military to enlarge.

I heard Ben Stein today say something great. Let's instead give the military good salaries. These guys need to paid at least double to triple what they get. They should get bonuses for leaving their families and going to a war zone too. They should also get job preferences, education, housing, Free health care - (all kinds of benefits).

I'd rather see the patriots make it big than force the losers into a draft.

Bad idea. In other wars, the military stayed on the job until the war was won. Training, rotating, equiping troops would cost double what it now costs.
I say no to a draft. The military is getting all of the recruits it needs.

A draft would have the potential of putting immature, spineless wimps, who have a distorted perception of reality, into positions that would make them a danger to the rest of our strong, dedicated troops.

You don't take some naive kid and put him in the battlefield with a gun. A draft would force people who don't believe in what they're doing to do things they don't want to do.

The people who sign up voluntarily have their hearts in it, believe in what they're doing, and are emotionally and physically qualified.

We don't have to, we are paying billions to private contractors to fight the war and do some of jobs our military would be doing. This way us americans can pay twice for the same service....and watch private comp. employees get rich off our money. It's a brillant plan.
They've privatized the war, no need for a draft

Yes.
The military is against the Draft, because now they have the "cream of the crop". The best people in the country always volunteer.

But..... I would like to see a Draft. Because many the young Democrat men would run off to Canada, just like gobs of them did during Nam.

That would be cool.
(Canada doesn't want any more Democrat Draft Dogers. They are still paying Welfare to those hippies of the 60's & 70's.)

Limited, to whom?

It takes many months to train our troops. The technology is complex you can't just hand out rifles and say ready, aim, fire.

Why not just have a highly paid highly trained Mercenary Army. Funded by riches from the spoils of War, Iraqi es should be paying for what they are getting.
