why do "conservatives" get upset about efforts
to protect the environment?

everyone wants to protect the enviroment but if you
lose you job and can't feed your famiy, then you care
little for some obscure little owl. there should be a
better way. and we are captive to OPEC and others becuase
we cannot get to the vast oil fields that would help us
detach ourselves from the need to cowtow to them.

why do "conservatives" give a free pass to
rapacious big business?

we are capitalist and do not feel being a
success mean that you are evil. why punish
success? instead we should make our government
model after businesses. if you're not productive,
your fired. our leaders know that won't happen
to them and they do nothing.

why do "conservatives" think family values mean
"valueables to my famiily".

the american family is so fractured now we have
children graduate that can't read on a third grade
level. we have large numbers of people with no skills
and can't function in society except on the most basic
level. we have re-defined the meaning of family and
want to further re-define it to accomodate the minorities.
we have women trying to raise children alone and young
women having children they can't mental, physically and
financially support. maybe these are the selfish ones.

what is "conservative" about an "exCessive" SUV?

i don't have an suv but i guess those that do, need to
haul their tradtional family to traditional family events.

"i dislike sterotyping ppl but for your question, i will
ask 'why don't liberals care about any of these things?"

The shocking part of modern politics is that the two parties are exactly the opposite of their imagine in most cases. Leftys denigrate any Conservative who doesn't share their loony beliefs, than cries foul when a Conservative points to the facts and insists they stop living in a dream world.

Think I'm wrong? Consider the following:

Conservatives are the real conservationists, not Liberals. Liberals say they are truly concerned about the environment, but what has been been their overall impact? Which group is responsible for setting aside all the national parks? Was it Conservative sportsmen, game hunters, botanists, and naturalists who had an intimate knowledge of the land, and sought tirelessly to protect it, or some clueless Liberal in NYC who just saw some pretty picture and thought it would be nice to visit someday?

So, misconception #1: Conservatives are the true conservationists. Liberals just make matters worse. The are inept blunderers who can't get anything right. If they had not opposed nuclear energy back in the 70's, we would be energy sufficient right now. We wouldn't have to even think about the Middle East. They could just go "pound sand". Wouldn't that be nice? Well, thank Liberals for the mess they created.

Think about it. France pursued nuclear energy, and they are laughing their @ss off at us

You think Conservatives give a "free pass" to big business? Arthur Anderson accounting firm was destroyed because of the Enron scandal, and it took until 2005 when the Supreme Court finally exonerated the company. The government destroyed one of the largest corporations in Chicago in a malicious witch hunt. You think that's giving big business a free pass? How about the tougher laws Bush has gotten passed making CEOs and other top managment criminally responsible for malfeasance? You think that's being easy on bad corporate behavior?

Family values? Conservatives are just a lot more savvy than fuzzy-thinking Liberals who never see the big picture. Think of society like a dinner party:

Imagine if you had a big dinner party at your home, and "Sally" complains about all the dishes containing meat, because she is a vegetarian.

"Bill" objects to the gold-rimmed wine glasses because gold is sometimes mined by underpaid workers in third world countries.

"Janice" complains that the dinner plates were manufactured by a non eco-friendly company, and demands that her host destroy all the offensive china immediately.

"Ahmed" bitterly denouces his hostess because she is serving wine, which violates the precepts held dear in the Koran. Also, this infidel hostess should be covered from head to toe in a burka, because her exposed calves are an abomination to god.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Just like this dinner party could not even be held, a society cannot function when the legitimacy of absolutely everything is constantly challenged. Liberals just don't understand this. They think they have the right to disrupt everything, and challenge every whiny, nitpicky thing that doesn't suit their foo foo preferences. This kind of insanity has to stop. Society can't function like this.

Think the Prius does less damage to the environment than the Hummer? Think again! Prius, is the source of some of the worst pollution in North America. The Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles.

So, let's summarize. Libs think they are doing good, but are inept blunderers who just make things worse. Conservatives have gotten exactly the opposite reputation from what they deserve.

As a conservative, I don't give one flip about what you do and how you live your life. That's your choice and I don't want to make those choices for you. I work hard for my money. This week, I put in a 70 hour work week, which is more than many.

I respect and protect the environment. I own a small business and have worked hard to make it successful, If you don't care about values, that too is YOUR choice.

Do what you want with your life. Swing off of lamp shades, jump off of a bridge, participate in a gay pride parade, or go out and get an abortion. I DON'T CARE.

Just keep your grubby fingers out of MY hard-earned money.

Agree?

Actually selfishness is a conservative value. According to the writings that you will find on all of the conservative think tanks it works something like if everyone acts on selfishness then everything will work to the benefit of everyone. The details are a little vague

Do some research and you will learn that people with conservative values typically donate more money and time to charitable causes. Check out Gore's and Clinton's public tax returns released before the elections and compare to Cheney's and Bush's, it isn't even close. Bush & Cheney donated more by a long shot. Check out Gore's home energy bill and tell us who is "excessive" - along with all of those idiot Hollywood liberal morons.

If you mean "selfish" because I believe people should have to work for what they have. If you mean selfish because I don't believe anyone should be living off of my tax dollars....than yes, I am a selfish conservative and proud of it!

It's called "New Speak," which is the deceptive half of an oxymoron.

Another example: "Clean Air Act"

if we care to attach the tag "conservative" to people who are "me first", "survival of the fittest", myopic in their world view, glorify in wealth...(kind of like the way a dog likes to roll in something foul it finds laying around). then yeah...i guess we could add selfish to that.
