Because they have been corrupted, bribed and threatened by the Bush-bot neocons. We need another cleaning of the hals of Govt.
You should call your representative and ask him why he doesn't represent you by upholding the US Constitution and holding the thugs in the White House accountable for their impeachable and crimes.

They won in '06, you're not the opposition when you hold a majority.
Though, really, 'opposition party' is only apropriate in a parliamentary system, in which a majority (or majority coalition) in the legislative gets you control of the executive, as well (it would be like Congress electing the President). Between '01 & '06, the Democrats were /like/ an opposition party, in that the Republicans controlled both Congress and the Presidency, since '06, with the Democrats controlling Congress and a lame duck Republican President, neither party is analogous to an 'opposition party.'

They gave into fear-mongering by the Right and fear that they would be seen as "soft" on defence and anti-terrorism.
The Democratic party doesn't realize that Americans have "f*ck-up fatigue." They could oppose the Republicans and be praised for it, if only they developed some balls.

The Republic and democratic parties are ONE PARTY.
It's a fake ploy by the governmnet and media to trick you into believing that there is a democracy.
Plus there are only 2 parties that are considered legitimate for hundreds of millions of people. That sounds very close to imperialism to me.

Like the rest of us, they were forced by fear mongering, and false accusations of being "unpatriotic".
