Is it me, When on a bus, I try to sit at the back why? 'cos when I have no alternative but to sit midway or at the front, it's enevitable (spelling probably wrong) I see/confronted with an old person/aged pass by and feel through respect etc. I offer that person my seat, but on many occasions I get rebuked! and others look as if I did something wrong. what is wrong with society now, Has no one got any respect for the elderly/infirm/aged etc. We all go down that road in the future.

It is nice to here there are some people left with manners out there, they seem to disappearing way too quickly.
No matter the reaction, don't let it stop you. That is the way i too was brought up and as I fast approach 50, I to be the recipient of such manners.
Thank you.

I have only ever been offered a leaning seat (not a proper seat) once on the tube, in my whole life. Never been offered a seat on a regular train, even when I've got luggage and a small kid.
Lots of men sit there ogling me, seeing my child and I both standing, and it doesn't occur to them to get up. I stare right back and if they are within hearing distance, point it out to my daughter loudly.
You keep offering your seat, and sit right at the front. Don't worry if it's refused, they have a right to refuse, it's no reflection on you.

I was always told to offer my seat to anyone older, or who just looked like they needed it more. So now I never allow an elderly person or a pregnant woman (or any woman at all for that matter) to stand whilst I am seated. No doubt someone will try and pin the blame for ban manners on Gordon Brown.

No one has respect for anyone anymore. That's the way things go. At least you still have that respect. Most people just don't understand that those people have done plenty to earn your respect. Our society as a whole is falling down hill, I mean, I feel as if I cannot be friends with a person of a different race for fear of being called racist. I cannot open a door for a woman anymore, for fear that she will slap me. People all think that no one should be better than anyone else, and they feel that certain manners are saying that you're better than they are. I do not see how being polite and holding a door for a person means I'm better than them, but that is what they feel.
