through a large hole in the earth.......wouldn't they be too weak to even be able to make use of these items?

aparently from the looks of things, because of excessive mining, this has become an unsafe "hell hole" so say the very least

Think about how dark it is in the cave. If they are still alive (and thats a big IF) there flashlights would be dead by now. There is no way they could find anything down there.
They are dead anyways. There is no way they could have lived this long. Lack of air also.

There's food and other supplies at strategic points in the mine. This is a western mine. Not one of the those antiquated hell holes in Appalachia.

The mine has water leaking in from everywhere and if they had their lunch with them they still have a chance, what a shame to abandon these men in this fashion.

Yea, what is it, twelve days now? You really can't survive that long without water, food yes. At best they are extremely dehydrated and weak, so I fear you may be correct.
