I don't think it will be the same. Before, people could complain about the officiating and nobody would really pay much attention - after all, referees are human and make mistakes like anyone else. Now, any time there is a major complaint about the officiating people are going to wonder: was that just a bad call or was it fixed? It's going to take the NBA a long time to recover from this.

The problem isn't that one ref was betting. The problem is that he could pick games based on who was reffing. That suggests a serious amount of bias when it comes to NBA refs.

Sure no competition. Worse case, future refs will face more screening and games will suffer harder reviews. For something to be "destroyed" in the world of entertainment it needs to be replaced with something. I doubt hockey can generate NBA ratings.

This potentially could destroy the league. If the gambling was that widespread then there is a great possibility that many, many games were being fixed by officials. This potentially is the biggest scandal ever in American sports.

If it goes unchecked it very well could. Especially with referee`s involved. The very integrity of the game is at risk.

Lets keep wrestling as the only scripted "sport".
