Well, I believe people can use words to great advantage. But I've found that a lot of their power is lost. I like playing with words, but it makes me sad when the small quirks in the words I've chosen carefully are missed by most. It's helpful to really understand each word one chooses in an argument. That way the words can't be turned against you as easily.
So, yes, I believe they have great power. It's just potential power a lot of the time.

I certainly do when it comes to "selling things." What an item is called makes a world of difference. For example, what if the popular I-pod was marketed as a "little recording device?" Nobody would have wanted it. When I was a kid nobody wanted to eat chicken wings, but somebody thought of changing the name to Buffalo Wings, and now people can't get enough of them! I could go on and on about the power of words in marketing. Extremely important.

Certainly. In addition to meaning, words carry connotations and emotional charges from the association and experience of the individual and group.
All this ranges up and down a scale of abstraction. People who fail to see words as abstract symbols, and those who have few emotional links to words, are equally dangerous and about two clicks from insanity.
According to Scripture every person will be judged by their own words. In this context, Scripture says that life and death is in the tongue. Words are how people contact, respond and manipulate each other. God counts even idle words. I would say they have power for good or ill.

yes, sometimes its almost as important how you say something, as what you say, sometimes its even more important
you have to be able to deliver your message (whatever it is ) in a way that others can understand, accept, and are willing to listen to
ps: words can either pull people apart or bring them together, for example at my work, we are a very diversified group, and there was alot of friction, sure we should of been able to resolve that, but a big change came when we started giving each other super hero or super model nicknames, it just happened one day, and i guess represented us seeing the positive in each other, but its amazing the amount of unity we developed, just from these few words, a different name
