I am making a breeding tank for my betta fish and I was wondering I f I should let a tea bag steep in the water to add tannins to the water do I need to do this or not would it help? anything would help thankz

If you are breeding the normal pet store betta(betta spelendens ) it is not necesary to add tannins(and certainly not with a tea bag) or to lower the ph to an acid level . If you were keeping wild bettas collected from the wild this would be a good idea There are many species of betta but most are never seen in pet stores.Some are even mouthbrooders

Tannins are good to have in betta water, esp. when breeing, however letting a tea bag steep in the water is not the way to get the tannins. You want to use Indian almond leaves, Betta spa, or drift wood. The Indian Alond leaves and betta spa are the best ways to get the water ideal for betta spawning. The tannins are not crucial to spawning, though, and bettas will spawn in perfectly clear water, but it does help.
