OMg, does anyone else think this is mean? I went out school clothes shopping with my mom and I really wanted some skirts. Wellllllll, my mom won't let me wear skirts because "they're not flattering to your big legs." Isn't that mean! I mean I'm not even that big! I used to be a 5, but I gained some weight over the summer and am now a 7. (I'm 14 btw.)

Yes, I am happy with myself. I'm happy and healthy. I've just been growing through a growth splurge and am always hungary. Yes, she let me wear skirts when I was a size 5. HOw can u think size 5 was big??? I always felt thin when I was that size. Wow, my whole intake on thin is completely different now.

your mom shouldn't have said that but gaining 2 sizes in 2 months is a little bit much. Don't be a slave to fashion either. I do see some overweight girls trying to wear mini skirts and other tight clothes and it does not look good.
I have lots of friends from other countries and they and their kids are shocked when they see how overweight American kids are. I know 2 girls from the Ukraine @ 14 and they are size 2 and 3 I'm sure but they excercise and eat right.
Americans are way too heavy; we are the unhealthiest first world country in history. Lose the weight and don't act like you've been shot or something. It was inappropriate for your mom to say that but I'm sure with friends or even with family you've said some pretty terrible things too. Stop the victim stuff and move on and excercise instead of being on the computer all day. Good luck.

That was really rude of your mom to say that.
First of all, you're not fat, and no one [ESPECIALLY your mom] should be telling you that you are. Second of all you should be happy with your body [which I assume you are] and wear the clothes YOU like to wear.
You should sit down with your mom and just talk to her about how you feel, and also ask her if there's some other reason that she doesn't want you to get a skirt. Did she let you wear skirts when you were a 5? If she didn't, she might just be think that guys are going to think of you in a more sexual way if you're wearing short skirts, and she doesn't want you to grow up. Good luck!

wow. i dont think the problem is with your mom being mean. i think people on here are mean.... maybe i'm mistaken but a size 7 is not "huge" or "pretty big". yeah it's not THIN, but i definitely do not consider it to be a large size.
plus, everyone's body is built differently. a girl wearing a size 7 may just have a bigger butt, or more muscular or toned legs. I wear a size 5, but once wore a size 7 and I was never big by any means, i just had a big booty and believe me, not many people seemed to be bothered by it.
plus, this girl is 14, a very impressionable age. lets not totally destroy her self confidence.
ANYWAYS ... i think perhaps your mom was trying to give her own opinion, but not everyone's opinions are necessarily correct. its about whether or not you are happy with yourself and whether or not you feel its appropriate to be worn...

I agree that it is mean. Your mom was pprobaly just trying to inform you that you have to do something aboiut this, but she shoulld have said it in a much nicer way. She should have came to you at a good time and said it. Which I also agree that you are not that big. I wear a 10/12 in kids, but I really should wear a smaller size but they really don't make pants long enough in the length!!!! :@!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that is very mean, but sadly A LOT of people think that the only size to be is a zero. It's extremely sad, because to me, and size zero is far to skinny, but a size seven (or anything for that matter) is beautiful.
I watched this video the other day that really made me think, and maybe you should show it to your mom:

Best of luck, and I hope you convince her to let you wear skirts! Maybe if you show her the ones you like, and if they are tasteful ones (unlike some I see at my school) she'll let you get one.
We're all behind you on this one dah-ling! haha

OMG!! that is really mean of your MOM to say!! I think you that it is really mean of her to say that, and MAYBE she was just trying to get you not to get the skirt, cuz she did not want people talking about your legs or somethhing, but that does NOT make that coment okay!! But I'm sure she ⥠you so just tell her that you wish she wouldn't make coments like that and that it hurts your feelings. You can't be mad at her forever!! BOL!!!! ;D

Think about it for a minute. Was she "mean", or was she honest, and what you're feeling now is uncomfortable with your weight gain now being a topic of open conversation? If I were your mom, I'd try to advise you against buying clothes that weren't flattering.

that was mean..but at least you can go shopping with your mom...my mom is so impatient and never wants to go to the stores that i want to go to so clothes shopping with her is a nightmare...maybe you should tell this to your mom so she understands what she did and why you feel the way you do

Your mom knows best and she is saying it in a rude way but she is probably just not wanting you to embarrass yourself
