I would be interested in becoming a partner of your project with my website which will launch soon. But I don't know how to do this. You could check out www.getacoder.com if you would be ready to pay something for your project.

I'm pretty certain that this will have a character limit, so it is impossible to answer all of your queries.

To begin: It would be near-impossible or a lifelong effort to go with this alone.

For starters, you need an understanding of programming. If you are familiar with web design then you likely know Java, which will help a lot as it is a programming language in itself. HTML is not programming, so if you base your websites on this, then you will have to research into different programming langauges.

If you are unsure, then the "For Dummies" range offers LOADS of options. I recommend a C language to begin, or VB as it is a great starting point.

Secondly you would need a knowledge in video-game design. That includes basic animation and cencept art, the depths of the game, unique sale points and all the simple stuff that everyone will take for granted. You need to do a lot of planning and research. If Second Life style is your aim, then visit it and check out what is offer there. What can you improve? Look at social networking sites. What do they provide that makes it such a popular choice?

You need a coniserable source of revenue to start a project of the scale you would like. Once designed it would be impossible to freelance a game of this nature. Look to companies like "Acclaim Games" who are always looking for new online projects. They'd take alot of the work off of your hands and fund the project from the ground up, so long as they see it as promising.

Look in the sources section for some (hopefully) useful links.

Writing a 3D world multi-users interactive game is a HUGE entreprise that requires HUGE amount of knowledge in very complex languages, HTML, Java, PhP, MySQL and Flash at least for the web side of it, AutoCAD, 3Ds Max 8, VRML for the "world" and rendering, Low polygon count modelling for your avatars, streaming processes for your server and so on... I can go on for a long, non exhausting list.
It must be set on a powerful server with a very large bandwidth to cater for multi-users and video streams (very expensive), so you better start by setting up your own server... and employ a few VERY GOOD programmers...
If you want a better idea of what you are facing, visit www.skytargets.com, the Phoenix Dodge City Game. I have been working (part-time) on it for the last two years, and I am not far yet... But it will show you HOW you can start: read "the making of it".
If you are keen, I am always open to get "partners" in that venture (not financial partners: PROGRAMMERS and DESIGNERS). Give me a call!
(The PDC Game is free and brings no income, but it is planned that games and ads will be payable in the future).

write out your specifications(design, avatars, rooms, scenery, clothes, theme), draw out a flowchart and logical sequence for the game(if you need to), then go to some programming forum (flash actionscript, JAVA) for internet based games and get someone to code it for you (for a fee).
Very likely you will get no help, but hey, you tried after all.
Its not like you are going to manage to program the entire application by yourself.
The fact that you had to ask this question and in such a manner shows you don't have a clue about programming and the networking, let alone making virtual worlds of any kind.

As a programmer i would say you first make you game according to the description you like with a programming language (i would advice java) or you may get the game, save it in a file on your computer. In your website hyperlink it to your site. As for the other thing you want to do meet a java web developer the will enlighten you.
