We need someone full time. They all want to know what we can do for them, not how they can help our business grow. What are we doing wrong?

here's something we used to do ...

[after making sure we were willing to pay good wages for good work]

we'd advertise our position in as many ways as we could think of, saying that interviews begin at 9am on Monday two weeks out. {Why? because the CEO is on a business trip atm and will be in town then.}

what we wanted was 15 interviewees all in the same room at the same time. our CEO then put on a bit about our company, where we were going, and what we thought needed to be done. [this saves us lots fo time because we only do it once, not 15 times.]

at this point, we plainly say that individual interviews begin in 20 minutes AND that we'd only like to talk to those who like who we are and where we think we're going. For the rest of you, thank you for coming and good day.

winnows the field down to serious people in a real hurry.

I agree 100% with thy. We run a magazine and outsource to a person who works from their home. You can certainly take your project offshore but that may create additional and unforeseen problems for a small business. I too can't seem to understand why a person wanting to know the amount of work they will be paid for is hard for you to understand.

First let's put things in perspective. You are the only person in your company that will ever care about "growing it". My translation of that statement is your company gets larger and you make more money. Where does that leave the employee? The days of the gold watch and I'll take care of you are not relevant in 2007. In fact I'd venture a guess that you started your own company because you felt overlooked, unappreciated, and underpaid at your last job.

So as you used your skills to help out that company did they take care of you?

Sorry about the lecture, lets get back to your question.

You don't describe what the person needs to do and why full-time is a need. Consider freelancing the job(s) out. If you don't have a big budget then giving up some control may be in order. If the GA can work from home and not have to spend money on child care, gas, etc, you might be able to get this in on budget.

Bottom line either you have the money or you are going to have to compromise.

Evidently, you are not looking in Japan, South Korea or elsewhere outside the US. You are also probably trying to do it on the cheap, and your definition of "reasonably priced" is not that of your candidates. What is wrong with a prospective employee wanting to know what you are going to do for him/her? Or is the problem that you don't want to give the employee anything other than a little more than the minimum wage?

If you expect them to help your business grow, are you willing to share that growth with them?

Where is your business located. Different parts of the country have different pay scales, I am an architect, and I have a son that is a graphic artist in south Florida. What are your needs exactly, meaning what kind of graphic design do you need.
If you could be contacted I could give you his information, (assuming you are local)
Good Luck

i'm a photographer who generally does landscapes for exhibitions and books. I could desire to assert which you should be careful of advice from people who do no longer understand photos because of fact this is totally subject-free to get blurred, washed out, awkwardly posed and uncomfortable looking pictures which you will throw in a drawer and not in any respect choose to make certain back. this is totally complicated on the different hand to recuperate uncovered, relaxing, nicely composed and exceptionally consistent pictures which you will treasure for years. I even have ten years adventure at what I do and understand my digicam and what it may do interior out and backwards yet might think of long, long and complicated approximately masking someones special occasion. whilst i might complete, i might then pass away and think of a few extra. i think of the alternative is the two to pay for a consultant provider or assume undesirable pictures. The suggestion you should carry alongside a mag and get somebody with a one million/2 good digicam to duplicate it without training is frankly absurd. Sorry to be abrupt approximately it yet you're able to be able to desire to appreciate that experts and amatuers alike spend hours 'deciphering' pictures, this manner of lighting fixtures used and what subconsciously makes the composition take a seat so nicely. It certainly supplies me a shiver to think of of your wedding ceremony day being decreased to 'wedding ceremony Portraiture for Non-beginners'. Please, in case you plan on taking part in your wedding ceremony memories for years yet to come back, pay a functional fee for somebody with adventure, competence and reliability. wedding ceremony photos is 10% photos and ninety% getting human beings organised, conserving the celebrant candy and dealing with the unpredicted like no longer being able to apply your flash interior the church, looking someplace extra suitable than the reception table for pictures in case of rain, encouraging very reluctant 'fashions' to look like they are not p*****d off at being exterior status like a goon together as each physique else is having a solid time on the bar. detect a touch priced photographer with a great character, in case you cant do this, hire an costly one. Dont placed it interior the (little question reluctant) palms of somebody who does not understand what they're doing, you will lose the memories and probable a friendship or 3.

I assume you've tried running classified help wanted ads in your local paper.

You may have also tried advertising on web services like Monster.

I've hired artists for small jobs like designing a postcard mailer on Craigslist.

You might contact local graphic design colleges. Or try some of the personnel temp-to-hire agencies.

Good luck,
