yes....but you have replaced your battery......probably doesn't need much of a charge at this point....the regulator sense,s this & regulate,s the charge strength accordingly.......if your battery was in need of a serious charge....the amperage would increase.....try checking voltage....should charge at minimum...12.5 v. to maximum 14.0 volt,s.....if your within this range your alternator is performing normally....now add load [ head lamp,s , radio , blower fan , etc.]....if it stay,s within limit,s your good to go.......65 amp,s is weak but may not be calling for any more...a slow charge is best [ unless battery is nearly dead ]....when checking under load....check amp,s....if amp,s increase or at least stay the same....your ok....good luck!

It doesn't sound like your alternator is bad...it is may be weak because of its age, but since your car starts fine the two days you use it and you have problems only when you let it sit for two weeks, and knowing that you just put a new battery, I would suspect a slow drainage somewhere. Make sure that all the lights are off, the radio is not on and whatever could drain the battery out is turned off...you may have a short somewhere too.
Keeping your battery charging while the car is sitting for a long period is good for the health of the battery.
Good luck!

Anything is possible. Since the car sits for weeks at a time, it would not be a bad idea to hook up a trickle charger to it. Either a solar one or a plug in one. Letting lead acid batteries sit discharged over time will cause them to go bad and the cells to short out from the sulphate. Look at specs for your alternator and see what it is rated at. If it is a 65A alternator then it is working fine. If you need a larger one, then think about replacing it with a HD alternator. good luck.

What meter you using ?? Alt. don't put out 65 amps. Should show approx. 15 volts at idle. The amps probably about 30 max. usually around 15. The amps vary according to load on battery. The voltage is the important thing. If you have less thn 14.5 volts at idle you got a alt. problem

yes It can be the voltage regulator or the windings. The windings break down due to heat and age. Some alternators do not put out peak voltage until 15oo rpm

I had a virago 920 and a 750 they have been my first motorcycles. I had to do some carb artwork on them.first of all once you had the carbs off did you verify the waft point on each and each carb and you will do this via hooking a sparkling line on your bowl drain carry the line right now up and it will coach you the gasoline point. verify your throttle cable isn't snaged up and is working exact. you're able to be able to could desire to set your important idle I set mine to 1200rpm verify your boots for air intake isn't leaking and to verify you could spray some the two in there together as this is working. verify your puppy **** to make certain it is not cloged and in keeping with threat slip a clean reveal in there verify your tank dont have junk or rust in there because of fact cleansing them carbs get previous speedy I pulled mine off atleast 20 cases yeah it have been given previous yet did get it actual. the only ingredient I hated with regard to the virago is the engineering of the starter, yeah and that they value 3 hundred greenbacks. determine you have solid compression solid plugs ngk's artwork great with the propper hollow. And in case you do all that and it nonetheless has subject your gasoline and air mixture will could desire to be set on each and each carb which will value $50 greenbacks to have the motorbike save regulate that for you in case you dont have a jet kit. Thats approximately it i wish that information will help you goodluck
