Ok, my friends and I are planning a trip to Times Square, New York, to see the ball drop this year. It will take us four hours to drive and the price of gas. Or we can fly and take us and hour and $800. I know that flying would be quicker, but money wise we are not sure. Plus, we will have to get a hotel room. But my question is if we drive how much gas would be needed for a 20 gallon tank to get us all the way to New York? Say he drives 65 miles an hour the whole way, which he will probably either go slower or faster but that is the average. How much gas would be needed then. Sorry I am not a math person. Anyone who has been to NY, give me some ideas on the Hotel, Gas prices, I know they will rise or fall, the cost of things, Ect. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Also we are planning to leave on the 28th of Dec. and Return the 2nd of Jan. Anyone's answers are welcome. Thanks soo much to anyone who answers. Also, we live near D.C. if that helps anyone out. Thanks.

Well, what car would you be using? You can't really tell the amount of gas you'll need unless you know the miles per gallon. Once you have that stat, it is about 225 miles from D.C. to NY, so you'll need at the very least to travel 450 miles on your trip (there and back). To be safe, I'd plan for 500-525 miles. If you tell me what car you have I could edit this post and figure out the exact price... but otherwise you'll have to work with that.

Oh, and as for the hotel around that time of year I would assume at the very least $150 a night, unless you find some sort of bed and breakfast. Not to mention the price of parking in which, unless you somehow possibly manage to find a parking spot on the street, you'll need a garage to go to which is probably another $100 to be safe.

I'd look into a train. It's very convenient, and you won't have to worry about the hassle of parking, driving, traffic, etc.
