Maybe they exist on a plane we can't perceive?

I'm not sure that any government is hiding evidence of aliens. However, too many credible people - from pilots to U.S. presidents - have witnessed what they think are UFO sightings. To have credible evidence, you'd need a clear video of something depicting a ship, or a piece from a crash. The evidence just isn't there.

To answer your second question, there are many reasons why a government would want to hide evidence, especially if they can develop defense technology from it.

I suspect (but claim no special ability to see the future) that any evidence would be released slowly and public reaction would be judged as an indicator to proceed or back off. NASA scientist released (they held a press conference) announcing that they found what they believed to be evidence of microscopic life having existed on Mars in a meteor found on Earth that was determined to be from Mars. This was met with alternate explanations including claims that the meteor may have been contaminated with life while on earth (with an apparently unknown lifeform). This reaction was judged and now NASA is looking for the building blocks of life to be present on Mars (existing in the past or present). When public reaction becomes to yawn at the discovery of microscopic life existing in the past, they may release knowledge of it existing now (Mars and the Titan moon are the best candidates so far). Of course this is assuming that evidence of such life exist. While NASA is a civilian agency their work is shadowed by the military very closely so any findings can be immediately deemed National Security.

I doubt all the governments of the world would need to be involved, Belgium has open records on UFO's and their air force pilots frequently chase them. I suspect they will be angry when one of our stealths has a malfunction and it breaks down and they catch it flying in their air space. However, Belgium is unaware of our top secret test flights as most other countries don't have access to our defense technology. Thus, it is at least possible that the United States alone could have this information.

Indeed the chance that we are alone is somewhat close to nil. It is also true that the universe is really really big, one cannot possibly understand its limits : 1) because of its expansion
2) human brain hasn't reached the scale of understanding it yet (if it can ever achieve it that is). It would be logical to think that not all aliens are technologically far superior to us, there are some below and some above us. I am guessing a specie below our technological limits could not come to us, makes sense right? if we can't even land humans on Mars yet. So if the higher intelligent beings come to visit us, what are the chances we can detect them? They could be invisible, human like, polymorphed, about anything your imagination can conceive. If they would show themselfs, it would end up in havoc, chaos worldvide, don't forget: humans fear what they don't understand. Perhaps they are already here helping us to evolve faster, you can't know for sure, but keep in mind this all those UFO sightings, sci-fi movies, encounters and abductions just might have truth in them. Hope i helped.

Well the universe is roughly 156 billion light years wide, according to scientist. And is about 13.7 billion years old. There are 125 billion known galaxies and probably more. The idea that there is no other life forms in the universe is a bit far fetched with or without proof.

Put the word God in place of Aliens and your answer would be completly different from a lot of people on here i would bet. They would tell you that you NEEd faith. Forget proof and rational thought, all you need is faith. I suppose Aliens probably exist somewhere, but unless they are far far beyond us the distance to travel would be mind boggling.

because they're just that good. and as far as the govornment- lets say all the sudden a bunch of aliens just all of a sudden appear. they decide to move in next door or whatever, and you notice what strange machinery they have... could it be for TOTAL EARTHLY DESTRUCTION?!?!?! so you go next doo and blow their brains in with a shot gun. turns out it was a blender. the gov. hides it cuz of the mass panic that would errupt.

i doubt we are the only planet in all of space that supports life. There may be life billions of light years away that we may never know about bc, well it might b billions of ligh years away and our scientists and nasa arent quite there yet, but maybe someday, or maybe a more advanced life form will come here instead, maybe ther already here?

Because the Universe is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you want to spend your life looking for life in the largest thing ever, we cant really prove it. Here, did you know that when a star explods it takes about 200,000 years or a really long time for a person to see it go out here in earth.
