No. I don't relate the two. (I also don't hear anyone say either phrase....) They don't seem to have anything in common. One is an excuse; the other is a warning.
How would that make you a geek? Dragons aren't geeks; dragons are cool. ( some may be cool geeks... }:> )

That is just one of the many sayings, phrases, of the day I think are so stupid. If you're a geek your in good company.

I think of Real World-- Las Vegas (or maybe it was San Diego?? I can't remember) when I hear that line! One of the cast members said that to another member, and I just remember how stupid it sounded. My husband and I say this to each other, jokingly of course, all the time now.
