If I was a perfect parent I'd say YES! No Mother should leave her children in a situation that is dangerous, and we ALL KNOW cars are very dangerous even without keys in!
I'm not perfect though and I've done things that looking back, could have had equally horrific consequences so I say NO! She made a tragic mistake and it will remain with her for the rest of her life!

when this was on the news, it said the car was running, she hadn't just left the keys in the ignition......what if they'd somehow managed to get the handbrake off? Yes it was a tragedy, but at the end of the day what fool leaves her 2 children in a car with the engine running "play" for 5 minutes unsupervised????

Yes it was neglect especially as she left the keys in the ignition. Has no one heard of Maddy? Yet people are still leaving their kids, UNBELIEVABLE. The mum is only 29 though and has 4 kids, one aged 12, and they lived in Croydon, so i'm betting any money they were horrible little chavs....

Are you serious? People are still leaving children alone after everything that's gone on with Madeleine? Are these people stupid or what? You NEVER leave children alone in cars without the keys in the ignition, let alone with them. Stupid woman.
A "mistake" is something you do BY ACCIDENT, you cannot leave a child alone by accident!

So this mom left young children in the car with the keys in it?!? Yes, that is child neglect, it should never happen. How easy is it for someone to just steal the car, then suddenly they realize kids are in it, then the kids are on a highspeed suicide chase with the police?
I don't really think she should be charged with anything though, knowing it is your fault the rest of your life is punishment enough. Hopefully other parents and future parents will learn a valuable lesson from this.

Yes it was neglect. Kids have died in cars before when left alone. Kids will be kids, they mess about, sadly such young children do not appreciate the danger they are in, its up to the parents to protect them.
And yes we all make mistakes, but with kids you always have to stop and think "is it possible they might get hurt?".
Poor kid, and yes i do have some sympathy for the Mother, how could she have been so stupid?

This is now a case for the HSE to realise/loook at preventative measures, as I'm sure many drivers have experienced some way or other frightening experiences in the past, But takes the death of a child before we take seriously. Poor child, to die that way, tears for him God bless.

That is a real tragedy.
If that woman is deemed guilty of neglect, I very much doubt that any punishment would even come close to the misery, guilt and regret she probably feels after the loss of her son, even though it was an accident.
That could have happened to anybody. Anyone who thinks they have the right to cast judgement should hope their own lives are perfect.
