But the biggest fish ever was the Leedsichthys of the Jurassic, which may have approached a length of 30m, making it far larger than the biggest fish today (the whale shark) and not far off the size of the blue whale.

Well, if you seriously mean the biggest fish EVER -- then I would say Leedsichthys problematicus, a fish that swam the world's oceans some 155 million years ago.

Discovered by two paleontology students in clay pits near Peterborough, the fossil is the largest known fish ever recorded

Equipped with massive, teeth-lined gills, experts say the creature was probably one the first giant planktivores. A Jurassic version of the baleen whale or basking shark, it would have filtered out huge quantities of tiny shrimp and other marine organisms while cruising over what is now central England.

The Peterborough specimen's estimated length is 22 meters (72 feet)—almost twice as long as a whale shark, the largest fish swimming today. Those working on the fossil reckon the species may have reached sizes to rival the blue whale.

However, if you mean living, then I'd have to say Whale shark.

Largest freshwater fish (an actual fish) was a type of catfish caught in Taiwan (nearly 300 kg)

The person who answered: Mola Mola=heaviest fish but not the longest fish. The longest fish in the world is the Whale Shark(Rhinodon Typus) and usually grows to about 45 feet, but the longest one ever caught was in the Gulf of Thailand in 1919 and was 59'.

Actually it's another kind of shark -- a basking shark, which can be up to 40 feet. Like the whale shark, it eats plankton.
