No, not at all, because you can grope anything. If I am rock climbing, I can grope for a hand hold- not really that sexy. I can grope in the dark for my snooze button. To me it just means to reach and feel for something.

Grope means to feel around, like to grope around in the dark feeling for a door. It doesn't necessarily mean something bad, unless you use it to describe certain touching of body parts.

I think it is mostly considered a shady word. I see the word 'grope' and I think of some sexually starved guy trying to 'grope' an unwilling female.

no it's not a bad word. it's a word that indicates negative connotations such as 'flipping the bird' etc.

grope imo refers to overtly touching someone in a perverse manner.
