I'm trying to decide between a laptop with a 120GB hard drive and a similar laptop with a 160GB hard drive. The first is $100 less expensive than the second.

Are 40GB worth the extra money?

You can add a 320 GB Sata 2 external hard drive for a $100. It's faster and portable. You can store all the music and videos and backups you would want on it.

So no I'd spend it when I needed the extra room. Frankly by the time you get there you will be able to do the same thing for prob half that cost.

When you fill up 100GB start thinking about it.

No 120GBs is probably more than enough for a lifetime unless you expect to have a really extensive film library.
