That depends what the needs are.As the first poster accurately points out some things have to be done by society as a whole.Fields like military defense,infrastructure need to be addressed by the community as a whole whether you like it or not.
It's good conservative thinking to make the government into a separate entity that is out to take our money and waste it.However in a Democracy and also in a Democratic Republic the government should be close to and reflect the will of the people.
There really is a broad consensus that some things need to be done by society as a whole or the government.The debate is more which things should be included.
Most conservatives seem under the impression health care shouldn't.I disagree
