Lithium bromide is an ionic compound, so to find the formula, you want to look at the charges of each individual ion making up the compound. In this case, you look at the periodic table and find that lithium has a 1+ charge and bromide (the ion of bromine) has a 1- charge. To form the ionic compound, you want to have enough of each ion to balance the charges, therefore, you would need one lithium ion and one bromide ion to balance the charge (ie. 1+ and 1- balance each other to neutrality.)

Using this information, you can now conclude that the compound is LiBr.
