You're talking about a repeater. But they will be hardware sitting mid-way (or at least partway) between you and the tower.

Not cost effective.

Usually the received signal can only be "boosted" from the send side (with amplifiers, or higher-gain-, or just plain higher antennas).

You may try moving you're machine to another room or part of the house. You'll find plenty of fluctuation in the signal strength if you are on the signal periphery.

Call Verizon, you need a Wireless router in your house.

Those haven't come out yet I'm afraid. It pretty much is a wireless router but its for reception for cellphones.
