The easiest way to generate .pdf from a Word document is to get PDFCreator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/) and install it. It is free and works great. I use it create all of my .pdf files.

It will add a "printer" to your Windows computer. To generate the .pdf file, just "print" to the PDFCreator print device and it will generate the file.
