I have school starting on monday and we received a packet for summer studying if we felt neccessary. Only problem is, I forgot a lot of the stuff I learned in Geometry and Algebra 2. Here are some sample problems I need to learn how to do...

Solve the following for x:

1.) -17/8x - 4/3 = 1

2.) 51/2x - 23/3x = 6

Solve each system of equations for x and y:

1.) { 4x-3y = -6
{ x+2y = -7

2.) { 19=5x+2y
{ 1=3x-4y

Compute the products:

1.) (3x² - 2a²)²

2.) [(a+b)-4] [(a+b)+4]

Factor the following:

1.) ab-bc+a²-ac

2.) 3x² - 22x - 16

Those are just some random problems I'm having trouble with.

This is not homework, it is only a summer study packet that should get me ready for class on monday.

Thanks for your help.

I got this at the end of the school year last year, but I just found it and figured it's better to study now.

1.) -17/8x - 4/3 = 1

isolate the x factor by adding the 4/3 to both sides so -17/8x = 7/3
multiply by 8 so -17x = 56/3
divide both sides so -x = 56/51
change the sign and if needed simplify the fraction so x = -56/51 or -1 5/51

2.) 51/2x - 23/3x = 6

get that common denomonator so
153/6x - 46/6x = 6 so
107/6x = 6, then multiply by 6 so
107x = 36 then divide by 107 so
x = 36/107

ok

-17/8x - 4/3 = 1
17/8 (x) = - 2 1/3
17 x = - 56 / 3
x = - 56 / 51

I'm assuming x is on the top line in that one

4x-3y = -6
x+2y = -7 multiply by 4, subtract bottom row from top

0 -11y = 22

y = - 2 -----------subinto original equation
