Everybody has been penciling Oden to be that 20 10 2 guy ala Robinson, Ewing, Olajuwon but when I see him I think he can be just as easily be just a Mutombo with roughly a 10 10 2 stat line. Convince me that Oden is more Robinson than Mutombo. In addition, also consider that in time, yes, Oden may eventually become a 20 10 2 guy, but guys like Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwon did it in their 1st years in the league (and the years thereafter). Can you really see Oden doing that in the get-go?

Oden has a developed offensive game in the post that mutumbo never had.

I think Oden has David Robinsons quickness and agility, and I think he can develop into a Patrick Ewing type of player. Remember, Ewing came out of college just as raw as Greg Oden is, talent wise. He really worked on his game, developed some post moves and a jump shot, that's exactly what Oden must do.

But he's definitely more Robinson, Mutumbo has always been pretty much one dimensional, great shot blocker, great defender, but no offensive game and terrible hands.

David Robinson was long, lean, athletic, can fill the lane on the fast break, but really had no post up game, he would turn and face his man up and either shoot the 17 footer in his face or take him off the dribble. He was also a terror around the basket defensively.

I agree. Oden is definitely more of a Mutombo. I don't think Oden will be able to average 20 ppg in the NBA. He is capable of getting 10 boards and 2 blocks per game because of his size and athleticism, but I just don't see him averaging 20 ppg. His post-game isn't as great as Olajuwon or Robinson. Also, if people say Oden is like Robinson, I want to see him score 71 points in one game. In fact, if Oden even scores 50 in a game, I'll call him the next D. Robinson.

It's tough to compare one player's style to another. Greg Oden is an athlete, is tall, can jump and so should be a force on defense. His problem will be offense. We know he can dunk but his shot range is the issue. Last year at Ohio State, he rarely scored outside 4' from the basket. He has not yet developed a 10-12' jumper that he will need in the NBA. That's not saying he won't, but he is not coming in with this talent. It may take him 2-3 seasons to develop the offensive game (moves and shots) that he will need. He certainly has the potential.

One other thing, his hands are poor and he fumbles too many passes to suit my taste. They will need to work on this.

Neither. He's Greg Oden. How about we give the guy a chance to play a meaningful game before we decide who he is? I think he'll have a solid NBA career playing a dying position (similar to the fullback position in the NFL). There aren't a lot of real centers anymore, just a bunch of power forwards playing center by default. After Yao and Shaq, who else is a CENTER? Stoudamire is a PF, Dwight Howard is a PF, Ben Wallace is definitely a PF. Let's see how things go first.

Well put. I definitely agree that he is more Mutombo [10-10-2]. His offensive skills is limited to dunking. He is not quite at Mutombo's level defensively just yet, but he could be in a little while. He is a little faster cuz he's young, but that'll fade as he gets banged up in the nba with the big boys.

nicely some analysts declare Oden to be a "as quickly as-in-a-decade-participant". Oden is very almost like David Robinson, they have been the two 7 ft, and have been athletic. Oden is aggressive decrease than the basket, he can grab rebounds and block pictures. in spite of if his offensive recreation interior the submit isn't as super as Yao Ming's, Oden will easily make his presence regular. easily everybody driving to the ring with Oden decrease than will easily think of two times.

Well..I think he could be the best of both worlds.

He has offensive skills and in college he went wild a few times but his defense is his pearl, so I think he will be more of a 15-18 pt/gm and 12 rbd per game....his block shotting could be 3 a game...which will push him to super center..
