Why is it that well educated African Americans and, well, all people who are well educated and not White are considered white washed? Is it jealousy or something else?

Being white washed is a personality thing man it has nothing to do with education.

Good question. It must be jealousy because those people doing the labeling arent as motivated to pursue education. I am not Black American, but Im African (Nigerian). I have had some Black Americans call me white because I actually have plans and goals for my life and education plays an important role in my plans (refer to my Yahoo answer's profile). I know some whites who arent even as educated as I am, so GETTING AN EDUCATION DOESNT MEAN ONE IS TRYING TO BE WHITE!

What's more insulting is when Im called 'white girl' or 'accused of' trying to be white, just because I date white men.

Its strange that ignorant answers like Black republicans get 6 thumbs up but truthful answers like Ima Shy girl get 6 thumbs down? Obama, is and knows that he is Biracial. However, he also calls himself a biracial black man and/or african american, because of the racism he experienced as a young person and he indulges in the african american community/culture, he goes to a predominantly african american church, and has married a african american women. And why cant people just let him be! He's happy and content with being who he is and he never denys it so just stop aksing questions about it!

YEP I AGREE WITH CRISPUS. Most Blacks consider you "white washed" if they feel like you are denouncing your pple and culture and accepting mainstream's culture and values. It has nothing to do with education. At times however, pple who have low self-esteem might USE education as a WAY to say that you are "white washed" but in actuality it's because they do not feel secure in themselves, so they say what they know will get your blood boiling. Also you have the whole OREO thing, that's the same thing as "white washed" really it's just you have the whole "white way of speaking" tone and word usage. The tone, ya'll know, is the "valley tone" and word usage consists of word used by the majority of white kids like MILF and totally rad (out of date probably but you get my dirft).

In order not to be considered "white washed" would they have to be attending a Black College ? Or an Oriental College ? I would consider it ignorance to consider them "white washed"
just because they attend higher education .

There's not enough space to answer this, but as short as possible this is what I think. From personal experience, people tend to lump others together without really knowing who you are.,on the other end of the spectrum I had a lady one time who wanted to know if I could read because I was her aide from another country.,another was impressed because I could as she put it speak good english, I thrive on being eloquent, and I know at times people think I am "white washed'' but who cares.By the way I am also BLACKKKKK

It is not jealousy.

It is the amnesia that causes these people to abandon those who shared their deprived beginnings. Minorities are in a good position to find out about and relieve the suffering of others like themselves. Unfortunately, in our soulless society, they immediately ape those who have never experienced any discrimination and even join in on oppressing their less-fortunate brothers and sisters.

For example, India educates thousands of doctors each year. Many of these take that education, gained at the expense of a poor, third world country, and dash off to the United States as soon as possible to practice where they can earn the biggest buck, leaving the sick and injured behind that were taxed to pay for their educations.

Every successful minority person you see in this culture has gotten where they are on the backs of hundreds of others of their kind. Their ingratitude and self-distancing from their roots is tragic.

I am African though I've lived in America long enough to consider myself American. I'll preface this by saying that there are huge cultural differences between black immigrants and black Americans.

Anti-intellectualism definitely exists within certain groups of African-Americans, generally disadvantaged ones. In my view, it's a defense mechanism. If you don't think your chances of doing well are high, why not pretend that doing well is undesirable?

Quite possibly the "Other" races just do not value an education the way that "White" people do. FYI, "White" is NOT a color or a race; it's a LIFESTYLE.
