There have always been some beliefs, legends and myths related to the famous historical monuments all over the world. And the Taj Mahal in Agra is no exception.
A legend claims that after the completion of the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan had the eyes of architect Ustaad Ahmed gouged, ensuring that nothing could be built competing with its magnificence. An identical complex was originally supposed to be built on the other side of the river, in black marble instead of white. There is some archaeological evidence to support this theory.
Legend says that Shah Jahan had one of the best lot of sculptors and craftsmen at his disposal who built the wonderful Taj Mahal. When the Taj was completed, Shah Jahan was so astounded that he ordered to chop off the hands of the craftsmen who built this monument. Shah Jahan did not want that such a monument should be built ever again so he ordered that the hands of the craftsmen should be chopped off.
However, no respectable historian finds these horror stories evident and they are labeled as false and baseless.

I do not believe it is true. The history has been twisted to make people believe so. There is a logic behind why i say this. Because Shah Jahan was building another Taj Mahal, a black one across the river, which never took to fruition beyond some minor work because of his imprisonment.

Shajahan had to spend his last years in jail just for building TajMahal.
His son Aurangazeb gave that punishment. The charge was that, a king has no right to use public money to build memorial for his wife.
This part of the story many people do not know. Aurangazeb didi not touch govt money, he used his own incime to lead a simple life. Many such things have been blocked from Indian history due to western authors.

Yes it is true that he cut the hands of the architect but not the entire group of labour.Because he didnot want Taj Mahal to be copied by any one.

and Shah Jahan was planning on building another, identical taj, across the yamuna river, in black marble, which was to be his tomb.
how he is buried next to his wife, below the white taj.
