What? That makes no sense. What, do all Democrats have to "stick together" at all costs even if it goes against their beliefs? Makes sense that people think that way - considering that's how Congress acts.

That's an issue in any primary. Do you go on the offensive against your opponents within your own party, even though the rival party might use the same attacks in the election, or do you softball your own run for the nomination, even if you're attacked, and likely lose?

Generally, primaries turn negative if they're not already a foregone conclusion. IIRC, Clinton went negative on Obama already weeks ago, and all he could come up with was the tired rejoinder that she voted for the war. I suppose he's finally got his attack dogs in a row.

Didn't George H Bush do that to some extent with "Voodoo Economics" statements about Ronald Reagan? They always slug it out in primarys, but hopefully don't actually damage the other in the final election.

I think you might be listening to too much Republican propaganda. That's what Conservatives would like for Democrats to believe. It is a political tactic on their part to make it look as if there is a rift in the Democrat party. Don't fall for that.
