I will tell u something happened to me like that , I used to have a Lebanese net pal for about moe than 5 ys , we had ups and downs in our relationship cuz of the conflicts of the civilizations or political issues , inspite of that we still friends , the last year during the Iraeli assault on Lebenon in July , i lost contact with him , i used to spend hours infront of my PC waiting for him to show up , i gave his mail to my sister to add him and wait for him as i was having exams , i was totally freaked out , i was praying for his safety
Finally he showed up for 5 min and he was in a bad pshycological state , he told me that Lebnon was totally ruined and this might be his last day to talk to me , then he started to accuse the Egyptian passive situation among what is going on and told me hidden that he can't stand to talk to any Egyptian , i left him and i couldn't bash him , cuz his heart was broken and months later after the stability of the situations he apologized to me , and gave me his cellular number and i gave him mine too , to keep in touch in those critical situations and since the last clash between me and him , he stopped mentioning policy in his talks to me!
Now I am SMS him to make sure that is doing well especially he is living in Tripoli near by that Palestinian camp (Nahr al Bared) , as there r lots of problems there

and he is planing to visit Egypt soon!

I have no idea what I would do. I can't imagine the horror. If my fiancee was kidnapped or went missing, I would file a police report and call everybody we knew to start tracing my loved one's route before they disappeared. In the U.S. people disappear or are murdered and sometimes never found again.

Even the thought is heart-breaking! It needs supreme strength and patience to react to that...
If this happened to me, la qaddar Allah, I think it’d take me the life time. I believe that true love stays in the heart. It doesn’t vanish or get reduced by the absence of the beloved.
True love can last even by the death of people in love themselves, by their memory. The same might go with the case of widows or widowers. Some of them don’t marry after the death of their spouses.. In most of the cases they don’t because they find it very sufficient to live on the memory of their second half.

Your question reminded of my favourite quote of all the Shakespearean sonnets:
"...... Love is not love,
Which alters when alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove,
O, no! It’s an ever-fixed mark.
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It’s the star to every wand’ring bark,
Whose worth is unknown, although his height to be taken."

So, my answer is: It’d take the life-time.

this is a very difficult dramatic question :-(
if he is missing, then sure i'll do all my best and what's in my ability to search and find him........i'll wait for him, and if he was my true love, then either i won't marry again or i'll move to another country :'-(
a true mo2men, is the person who accepts what Allah (swt) has destined for him/her , and be patient on the plight and seek the reward from Allah........... and that is what any person should do.
ya rab er7amna men methl hatha al alam wal 3athab........ Ameen ya rab al alameen.
