I kniw Johnny probably wouldn't give his position up, but if he did, I think good candidates for leader would be Bo Bice, Kid Rock, Greg Allman, and Bucky Covington.

They should let Rickey "Lightning" Medlocke (Blackfoot) or Hughie Thomasson (The Outlaws) take over if they do change.

Medlocke and Thomasson both played with Lynyrd Skynyrd recently, and both handled lead vocals for their respective bands listed above.

When I saw him on American Idol, I thought Bo Bice would be ideal to work with Skynyrd. I hate that show, but I watched it after a friend mentioned Bice. With people like him out there, legitimate Southern Rock doesn't have to die.

Edit: While I like some of Kid Rock's music, though he at times pretends he is a Southern Rock performer, he definitely DOES NOT represent that culture at all.

no offence man but Bo Bice and Bucky Covington are not in the same league as Kid Rock or Greg Allman

Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers comes to mind. DBT did an entire double album ("Southern Rock Opera")based on their respect for Skynyrd's legacy . I'd sure hate to see DBT break up though, as they are unquestionably the best of the "newer" Southern rock bands out there today.
