Put the cigarette down.....

Try a patch or the gum or both. Mainly it's just will power..... you know it's bad for you, let that be the guiding force.

Find a reason to quit. I had an ulcer once and smoking contributed to it, so I quit after that. Also over time from smoking I was developing emphazema, shortness of breath, and I was gaining weight. That was within the second year I started smoking. Do more things that smoking causes you to do less well like running and singing. Best way to prove to yourself your killing youself if you feel healthy is to have a physical. Anyways, best of luck trying to quit.

The best way is the one that works for you.

Check out http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/common/addictions/tobacco/296.html. This is a quiz which will help you understand what triggers your smoking.
Check out http://www.philipmorrisusa.com/en/quitassist/index_flash.asp for information on quitting.
Make an appointment with your doctor to find out what smoking cessation aids, if any, would work best for you.

Join a support group. There are three on Yahoo. My favorite is Nicotine Busters. They also have a wealth of information on smoking cessation aid and going cold turkey.

The best of luck to you!!!!!

I quit cold turkey after smoking for 20 years. That was 4 years ago. Gums, pills, nothing helped. I just had to stop smoking. Period.

Actually the best way is to spontaneously quit. Dont plan, dont think, just quit. Ofcourse this wont help sell any antismoking products or therapies so it isnt often suggested. The beauty of this method is that it costs you nothing and can be done anytime. Like NOW.

You dont have to believe me, so here is the scientific proof:

"I can resist anything except temptation" was the phrase by Charles Dickens. If you control yourself from the smell of smoke, you can stop smoking. Atleast try practising the art of controlling yourself when someone smokes beside you. You can definitely quit smoking. This is the way I stopped chain smoking. Please try.
