Slow and boring? It may start slow but it builds and builds... Jimmy Page's guitar solo is one of the most emulated riffs in all of music. The balance of the composition and the musicianship involved is legendary... and Robert Plant's voice is rock n roll. I mean you are allowed your opinion of course and maybe you are twelve-years-old or something, but Led Zeppelin encompasses all that is and was once right with rock music... I can't tell you any more than that... it is like you are asking why do people believe in god or something... If it does not resonate with you then I can't help you. It might also be a good idea for you not to ask this question in the "country" section, although music is music and labels suck. Good is Good Man... and then there are the lyrics...

Stairway to Heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
it makes me wonder
it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
it makes me wonder
it really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying the stairway to heaven

The song is all about living a life that will get you into heaven, that money and materialism won't get you through the door... about appreciating the fragility of life and learning as we grow old so that we may be at peace when we meet the Lord... some people get that California 22 and some don't.

Listen to the original version.
Listen to the Live 1972 version {on How The West Was Won}.

Can you not hear that guitar section???????

Listen to those lyrics. Creative writing at it's very best.

It builds up slowly. The drums don't come in until over 4 minutes into it. Then it fades a little.

Then that GUITAR and those DRUMS.

And that wonderful lyric..."And as we wind on down the road..."

Then the slow end, as Robert near whispers
"And she's buying a stairway to heaven"

They just don't make songs like that anymore! It is the definition of 'Classic'!

Obviously, you just don't know how to appreciate Led Zeppelin.

After all, if you did you wouldn't have listed this Q in 'Country'!

And ignore the two answers at the top. You do NOT need to do drugs to appreciate Classic Rock!

Cali4kneeahh just said it all
pick him
And there is a variety of musical instruments in this song
If you took a couple of minutes to listen to the song you would understand why it's slow .
You need to think outside of the box
Instead of listening to these 2-3 minute mainstream songs about sex ,and suicide.Yes we understand people have problems like that but you have to keep moving forward. Most classic rock music has such beautiful meanings
It's so great how the bands put creativity into their songs to make the best they can .
They never give up
They come up with their own ideas rather than hiring a songwriter to write them songs that sell They don't care if it doesn't sell
They love to speak their mind

It depends on what music you're into. If you like all that new EMO crap out there, you wouldn't understand this music, let alone the song itself. Read the lyrics, listen to the song, then read the lyrics while you listen to it. It's a truly amazing song. It's like 2 full songs in one. The beginning is obviously slow, but great and when it picks up with "And as we wind on down the road" it turns back into a ridiculously awesome rock song. Aside from that, you have to have a true appreciation for those type of guitar sounds, and more importantly that type of music all around. Try it again and with an open mind. It's a huge buildup until they just rock out.

The lyrics are dark and mysterious..the music is a slow build to a slamming rock frenzy..Robert Plant's vocals are inimitable..the chords are so complicated it takes hours of guitar practice..and YOU get bored easily so you don't get it. Go listen to Fergie.

BTW, the song was never released as a single yet achieved the status it has.

LZ is my favorite group and I have to say that while I like the song it is not by far my favorite LZ song and it is NOT their best song. It think the whole Hobbit influence and cryptic meanings have captured people all this time. The song does rock but not like many others by them. In part I'm with you. What's so great about it? But never is it boring. Very nice beginning, builds to a great climax, then lets you down to sleep.

The song, is a musical masterpiece and aparently one of the most inspirational songs out there. I for one dont care for it too much, and the solo isnt all that great, I would much prefer the solo in Dazed and Confused. Its still an alright song, and good to slow dance to, but other than that I dont really care for it all too much. The song is way overrated.
