Everyone is guilty of this to some degree. I know I am. I don't need money to be happy but the only real stress I have in my life is from money. Knowing the bills will be paid each month calms that but its always in the back of mind. Especially when big expenses such as homeowners insurance or property taxes come up and we have to budget ourselves very strictly for that month.

So everyone, how important is money in your life. 1 being you could care less and live your life with no worries about money or 10 money is a big factor and its something you think about on a daily or weekly basis.

I put myself at about an 8 but would love to see everyone else's views.

You must first separate happiness from money.

Happiness comes from a true appreciation of who you are.

To appreciate money is to appreciate what you have.

I've been very fortunate in this regard in that I have lived most of my life around very wealthy people. (Don't ask). I simply manage to pay my bills.

First, spiritually, I am a very happy person. No matter what.

Some of the wealthiest people I've known have been some of the most miserable. Some of the poorest, the happiest.

It's a matter of value. And values. Dollar values aren't the only ones.

If you look forward with anxiety to the pain of meeting anticipated expenses, then, in your case, anxiety induces misery. Even then, it has nothing to do with money, but more to do with having what you need. What you need is a way to relieve the anxiety of having to worry about money.

Well, sure, money will do that! But could there be something else? Better, or professional, money-management, maybe?

I recently worked for a financial services firm whose entire mantra was, "eliminate debt...become financially independent". It works. And, even when we say financial independence, today, in the United States, money is implied. But, you'll eventually admit, they're not the same thing.

Before we get bogged down in that, notice this:

Happiness lies outside of this whole conversation!

What a revelation?

On a scale from 1 to 10? Somewhere between 0 and 1.

I don't consider happiness to be the opposite of discontent.
Nor do I feel happiness to be synonymous with contentment.

But there is a major lack of contentment when I do not have money to pay bills, or to take myself to a doctor or to take the dog to the vet or to take care of things that need taking care of.

On the other hand, I usually owe so much more money than I can pay each month, that I routinely blow a small portion of my paycheck on books or CD's at the local used book store.

Your initial question asks for a rating of money and happiness. As it relates to happiness, I'll rate it a 4. As it relates to contentment, a lack of fretting, I'll give it an 8, as well.

I like this saying, "Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery a lot more bearable."

Money is good...its is a tool...and as a tool you need money to accomplish some thing. Everything you do around the in everyday life requires you to use money...I am not talking about meditation and stuffs like that. Everything we do one way or another...is to get money...why? because...it can buy medicen if it doesnt buy health...it can provide the things that makes you happy ...if it doesnt make you happy and ppl tend to love those with money...so you figure it out the rest.

All the money in the world won't make you happy but having it takes all the worry away for you to enjoy your life (if you're smart...Paris Hilton, for example wastes her life everyday)
I put moneyat a 7 cause it makes my life so much easier to enjoy if I don't have to worry about where that next dollar is going to cover what bill.

I too have been guilty of assuming having more money would make life easier and therefor make me happier.
I think I think differently now and I would rank it between a 3 and a 4. Family, friends, spiritual life, and the everyday blessings of life make us much happier than money can.
Good health and the love of family and friends cannot be bought and they make me much happier than money ever could.

Judging by the people I know who have money, and those who don't.... about a 4.

In my own case it would be even lower. All I care about is having enough to stay out of debt. My happiness comes from other places.

Absolutely zero.

How much did you pay for your TV set? but did you pay God anything so that he would make your eyes?

How much did you pay for your stereo set? but did you pay God to give you your ears?

How much did you pay for your water bill? but did you pay God so that there will be rain from which our water came from?

How much did you pay for your electrical bill? But did you pay God for making the sun shine?

How much are you paying for transportation costs? But are you paying God for your legs that transports you everyday?

How much are you paying for homeowner's insurance? But are you paying God so that He will make sure that your heart and lungs will continue beating and breathing as you sleep?

How much are you paying for property taxes? But are you paying God who made the earth from which all properties are standing on?

So you see, there are far more important things that money cannot simply buy. And will never be able to, never. Yes, it is true that the best things in life are for free.

When was the last time you thought about God? I think you badly need a retreat or a recollection. Remember, man does not live by bread alone. For God's sake, have a spiritual retreat.

one. money means nothing to me.

Life is full of choice and I choose to be happy beyond all things... & I am. Priceless!

Funny outcome is that I now always have money!

When money was my goal I never had enough!

When happiness was my goal, money came from all directions!

Wild!
