how do you shape a picture in photoshop cs3?

i want to shape the border edges of my picture to be round...how d o i do that??? or if i wanna shape the picture into a heart or star also!

There are advanced techniques but here's something more simple...

Create a 2nd layer. Place it above your picture layer. Fill it with some colour (green)

Draw the shape you want on the 2nd layer which will act as a cutout. Lets say the shape is a star. Colour the star red.

Now select the inside of the star & hit delete. You now have a green screen with the star shap cut out & exposing what ever is underneath.

Now merge the layers.

Now click on the green area which highlights everything except your star w/ pic. Pick . Cut & copy the star w/pic to where ever your want.
