I've not noticed and think it could be a coincidence. Or it follows the direction of the rising sun, which is a symbol of warmth and hope even for the dead.

The east represents new life,( the rising sun).
In Christianity people are buried that way, because Jesus is suppose to return in the East. Many people were buried facing east so they would be facing the sun when they arose on judgment day. In Celtic Mythology the East and the Rising Sun are the The Givers of Life.

The sun rises in the east. And, the "head" of the deceased person also faces east; the "feet" face west.
