First, multiply both sides by 2
208=(360-x)-x
208=360-2x
360-2x=208
add 2x to both sides
360-2x+2x=208+2x
360=208+2x
subtract 208 from both sides
360-208=208-208+2x
152=2x
2x=152
x=76

check: 104=1/2[(360-76)-76]
104=1/2[284-76]
104=1/2[208]=104

104=1/2[(360-x)-x]
104=1/2(360-2x) You are going to end up subtracting x twice anyway. Now divide each side by 1/2:
208=360-2x Now subtract 360 from both sides to get the variables on one side and the constants on the other:
-152=-2x Now divide each side by -2
76=x
