I recently aquired an old home which i plan to remodel and make my main home. But, In the guest section of the home about 1000 square feet, the old tenants left quite a mess. There is trash everywhere, cans, food, rotten milk, maggots, pet feces etc...literally 2 feet high.I can not even walk in it,I think it has been closed up for about a year and it is quite nasty. So my question is,How do i go about getting it cleaned up? I don't think a regular maid service will do as their are several pieces of heavy furniture that need to be disposed of as well,Is there someone who specializes in this sort of thing? And what might it cost?

HELP

Thanks

Rather than hiring illegals, wait until trash day. Ask your garbagemen if they'd be interested in making 100 bucks on the weekend. They deal with that kind of stuff all the time, and shouldn't be as bothered by it.

This was my wife's part in the business we had.

They would go in and remove all the old trash, use rubber gloves and sometimes had to wear masks. Then they would scrub everything down, a "deep clean: we called it, then it would be sanitized. When we did the entire home, all rooms including windows for resale the price would run about $350.00 to $800.00 dollars, they could also bomb the place for insects.

We had some places that had food in the refrigerator for months while the power was turned off, can you imagine what was in there, I opened he door and green liquid flowed out.

Another one, there was 600 pounds of dog food in a pantry, the water bed above it broke and the water flowed over he dog food and was left in 140 degree heat for weeks. They had to wear masks with lip balm covered over them to be able to breathe without puking. The maggots were ankle deep. That one was $1400.00 it filled three huge trash bins.

Advertise the above wording in a newspaper or a thrifty paper. Make sure you give them a good price.

OR you can get a box of large black leaf bags and little by little bag as much of the mess as you can. Then get someone to move and dispose of the furniture for you. Remember that they will have to pay trash cost at a dump ground.

You might be surprised. Apartment complexes have to "trashout" units quite often. Sometimes it is a really big mess. There are lots of companies that do just that. I worked at an apt complex for years and sometimes the companies we called would trashout a really bad unit about a 1000 sqft for 1 or 2 hundred bucks. you might even go down to your local day labor sight and pick up a few laborors of fifty bucks each give them some gloves and good trash bags and turn them loose. you will be surprised how fast it goes. Just be sure to buy them lunch and have plenty of water for them to drink.

You hire anyone, you may be responsible if they got hurt or sick so if that is your choice, hire someone that is not going to sue you. Ask large garbage haulers for prices on the sit in the street, garbage trailers. Dump from into trailer with shovel-full, dumped from 5 gal-bucket or plastic bags. It will be a lot of work. Do little at a time.

Well, skilled labor is NOT what you are looking for here. You need to find some people who are in the market for a days work (Home Depot seems to attract these people). But if you do not feel comfortable doing that, invite some neighborhood middle school/high school kids to help you. Pay them of course and give them masks and gloves.
