"Most" is rather vague. But I guess that it is SAFE to say it. And yes, fair.

America's official motto should be..."Don't mess with me, and I won't mess with you." If we accepted that as our national standard of conduct we'd eliminate all this 'blue state/red state' nonsense and go back to being the 'United States'. 'Moderation' goes to hell when one class of people has a particular issue that they want all other classes to embrace, using the 'law' to force all other classes to accept their particular thesis. I hate to bering up abortion, but the Jesus freaks, instead of simply preaching a no-abortion policy to the members of their club, have tried for over 35 years to have the federal government force every american woman to go full term no matter what her circumstances or wishes were on the subject. Pushback meant the end of moderation on that subject, creating a problem where no problem existed before. I suspect other posters can come up with a few more examples...I know I could....about a dozen! Wadda' 'ya think...should we just get on with our lives and leave other people alone?

It depends on what you consider extreme, but I would say that is a fair assessment. If anything, we are a conservative nation. When you look at other first world countries, most have a great deal more emphasis on social programs, and less emphasis on military.
