I think it does gradually, along with drinking.

It boosts you up for awhile, but then it makes you worse later.

why is this you think?

it does, if you associate it with those depressing moments of your life (death, break ups, losses, failure).

Most people think that smoking is a relaxant but it is in fact a stimulant.I smoke about 10-15 a day but fortunately for me I have a job which involves a lot of exercise so I know when I`m smoking too much because I feel it.
The cost of cigarettes in the U.K depresses most people as much as the addiction.I drink on weekends and when I get very drunk, not too often,I feel bad for a couple of days after.I call it `booze blues`.

My doctor told me that it can mask depression, which then comes out when a smoker quits. I think that may be way some doctors prescribed an antidepressant when someone is about to quit smoking.

I've been smoking a pack a day for 18 years and I'm not depressed. Non-smokers get depressed when I smoke. They ask me why I smoke and my only response is, "To give non-smokers something to complain about."

Smoking does not depress me. It actually calms me, relaxes me and is a great way to spend my breaks at work - it guarantees that I take one!

I've been smoking for a very long time.

smoking is an addiction that slowly takes your health confidence and so on at a very slow rate, most dont notice it creep up . although most people think that the cigarette releives stress it doesnt it actually creates the problem in the first place , the first proper cigarette someone smokes is a chain reaction to losing health money and confidence as that cigarette is hundreds or thousands of cigarrettes in ONE , read the book allen carrs easy way to give up smoking seriously works .

I don't think it makes you depressed. It might give you cancer (happened to several people I know) but there are a lot of happy smokers out there.
