Does anybody know if any companies sell a pre-configured wireless access point which can charge users for wireless internet access via credit card payments? I'm looking into it for a friend who has a cafe.

You just happened to catch me in the right mood.

Usually, I'd keep this to myself:

What you want is a radius server (radius originally stood for random access dial up server but now is used for dial and non-dial applications). This software will restrict access, charge users, etc.

There are many makes, models, and features of these products.

You should do a web search for radius server and from there you will have a pretty good handle on what is available and what will work for you.

They are not preconfigured as you would like because it is too difficult to preconfigure for all the potential uses.

Um secure it, and then if somebody wants to use it, charge them the amount youd like, then give them the password, and then change the password every night. That should work. Also if they try passing around your password, raise the rates, and constantly check how many computers are on it using the software that came with it, if there are more than paid, then go around and see who it is, and you might even be able to block them considering what software your using. if your not up for this, then i guess give up.
