Is it true that actress Vivian Vance was actually younger than Lucille Ball? And that she was actually prettier than Lucy, but was forced to be overweight because of her role? I went to wikipedia and imdb to compare their birthdays, but the birthday written on Vance's pages are not the same.

No idea, I heard they really didn't get along however when they filmed the series. I don't think Lucy was that great a person to get along with.

The majority of resources I checked have Vivian Vance born in 1909 - Wikipedia seems to be off. Lucy was born in 1911. So, if I'm any judge of numbers, Vivian was older.
As far as 'prettier' - well beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Wikipedia says that a common myth is that Vance was contractually obligated to be 20 pounds overweight during her entire run on I Love Lucy. This was allegedly due to Lucille Ball's concern that she, herself, would not appear as attractive if Vance was allowed to appear as she naturally was. This misconception is further fueled by Vance's natural weight gain and loss throughout her years on the show. The myth, however, is untrue. (see link)

I've also heard that Vivian Vance was younger than Lucy and so was Desi. The role of Ethel was intended for another actress if I'm not mistaken I think the lady who played grandma Walton was supposed to play that part. Ethel was supposed to be dowdy and so that's why Vivian looked so frumpy. I think Vivian had a weight problem anyway because you could see that she remained heavy the rest of her life. As for being prettier that's a matter of opinion..they were both pretty but not drop dead gorgeous.

Trust what imdb.com says. It is the most credible source for actors/actress/movie information.
Wikipedia can be edited by anyone with an account there so they can put what they want whether it be true or not.

Legend has it that a clause in her television contract required her to stay 10 pounds heavier than costar/producer Lucille Ball. Actually, this contract never existed, at least not in legal, binding form. It was a mock contract given to Vance by Ball as a gag gift sparking the legend it was a real contract.
It also says she was older by 2 years

Yes, Vivian was older than lucy and the rumor is that in order for her to get the roll she needed to be older looking to be married to Fred Mertz.

i tihnk vivian was actully older. and it was in her contract that she had to be at least a certain amount heavier than lucille to remain on the show. beauty is a matter of opinion.
