They don't really. They're merely updating stories. Plus you must distinguish between cable news and local news. If you keep cable news on 24/7 or even for just a few hours you WILL absolutely hear the same stuff repeated because those channels were never designed for continuous viewing.

No puppeter. Merely a fixed amount of professional inbreeding among the media outlets of mid-Manhattan. If it seems of interest to other in mid-Manhattan and the surrounding area, it's news. If they can't find the geographical location of the story on the map, it never makes the news.
