I could be 1) Ion combination 2) oxidation 3) reduction or 4) Redox
You have to look up in a table how many electrons Magnesium gains or else looses in a reaction, it's valance.
Some metals can do either.
So, just off hand without a table, I know that magnesium
burns, in other words it combines with oxygen in a rapid oxidation process. Slowly this would be called corrosion.
But just so you know, some things that are metalic can catch fire. Like magnesium.

It is a combination reaction where oxygen reactswith magnesium to give magnesium oxide

magnesuim oxide is the compund formed; if i am right-it's either a covaelnt bond or a ionic bond depoendeing on magnesiums outer shell configuration. I'd say ionic knowing oxygen's reducing power.

I think this is a oxydation and redox reaction, becouse Magnesium neutral, and then became Mg^+2O^-2.

2Mg + O2 ----> 2MgO

It's:
exothermic
redox
synthesis.

Any one of those terms is a correct description.
